This Saturday, RB Leipzig beat Werder Bremen by 3-0 at the Red Bull Arena, for matchday 22 of the Bundesliga. Lukas Klostermann, Patrik Schick, and Nordi Mukiele scored the goal that guaranteed the 3 points.
The first half was basically what we expected. Leipzig retaining the ball and showing aggressiveness, while Werder Bremen were closed in the defense, suffocated with the pressure from the Red Bulls.
Playing basically on the attack, it took 17 minutes for the hosts to break the deadlock. After a free-kick, the ball went to Schick, who sent it to the box, maybe trying to shoot or maybe trying a cross. It didn’t matter, once the ball stayed with Klostermann who put it into the back of the net.
Leipzig kept on attacking and had a good chance at the 25th minute when Schick was almost facing the goalkeeper. However, he was too slow and the defense cleared the ball. Bremen, on the other hand, just tried some long-range shots, that were not enough to scare Gulacsi.
At the 39th minute, the hosts doubled the scoring. After a corner by Dani Olmo, Schick jumped alone and headed home past goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka.
With the advantage, the Bulls decided the match within 35 seconds into the second half. Laimer sent a long ball to Mukiele, who put it into the back of the net and guaranteed the victory of the hosts.
The 3 points were really important to Leipzig, who keep fighting for the title of the Bundesliga against Bayern Munich. They continue in the second position, with 45 points. Just one away from the leaders. Werder Bremen, on the other hand, are living a different moment, once they are in 17th position, with just 17 points. The River Islanders are just one point ahead of the last place on the table, Paderborn.
Leipzig will come back to the pitch on Wednesday when they will travel to England to face Tottenham for the UEFA Champions League. Bremen will rest midweek, preparing for their difficult match against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
