This Sunday, at Ennio Tardini Stadium in Parma, Serie A contenders Lazio beat the home side by 1-0. The match for the matchday 23 of the Serie A was quite important for the Biancocelesti, especially due to Juventus’ defeat. The only goal of the match was scored by Felipe Caicedo.
The first big chance of the match came from the feet of Serie A’s top scorer Ciro Immobile. The number 17 controlled the ball inside the box and shot, but the ball went wide to the left. The Spaniard Luis Alberto was the highlight of Lazio in the first half, creating the best opportunities to score.
The Spaniard once again proved that he has potential and paved the way for the first goal. At the 41st minute, the number 10 delivered it to Immobile, but the ball ended up going to Ecuadorian Felipe Caicedo, who struck a strong half-volley into the left corner. Out of reach for goalkeeper Simone Colombi.
In the second half, Parma finally created some danger to the visitors. After an inverted ball, Riccardo Gagliolo was unmarked and hit the crossbar. Albanian goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha was the highlight of Lazio, making some important saves to keep his team with the 3 points. Immobile still lost a great chance at the final minutes, but it was not the night for the number 17.
With the victory, Lazio remains on the 3rd place, with 53 points. The Biancocelesti are just one point behind the first and second place, Juve and Inter, and are still alive in the fight for the title. Parma is in the 9th position, with 32, just 2 behind the 6th place, which gives a place on the play-offs of the UEFA Europa League.
Both teams come back to the pitch on the weekend, for matchday 24 of the Italian League. Lazio will prepare for the difficult and very important match against AC Milan, in Rome. Winning can mean getting the second place and, depending on Juve’s match, even the top of the league. Parma, on the other hand, will travel to face Sassuolo.
