On Sunday night, Lanus welcomed Newell’s Old Boys, at Nestor Diaz, in the Argentine Superliga. In a very even and disputed game, the home team came out behind the scoring, with a goal from Sebastian Palacios, but leveled through Jose Sand, from the penalty spot.
In the first half, both sides played a physical game, with a lot of disputes for the ball. However, we didn’t see many clear chances in the first 45 minutes.
After the break, the game got more interesting, with more offensive actions, and two goals. NOB opened the scoring on 58 minutes, from a counter-attack. Maxi Rodriguez’s shot was saved by Lanus’ keeper, but the rebound fell to Palacios, who scored with his right foot. 0-1.
Five minutes later, the Lanus response came, as Lerma fouled Lautaro Costa inside the box, as the referee awarded the hosts a penalty. Jose Sand was the taker and scored at the bottom left corner of goalkeeper Alan Aguerre. 1-1.
After that, Lanus remained the brighter side, but they couldn’t finish it off. The draw was maybe fair enough for what both sides produced throughout the match.
It was fair. But not good for any of them. With the 1-1 draw, both sides lost good chances of moving up in the table and get close to the leaders River Plate. Lanus remains in 4th place, on 34 points, and Newell’s Old Boys got dropped down to the 8th place, with 31 points.
Lanus will face Atletico Tucuman, next Saturday, away from home. On the other hand, NOB continues with a streak without losing in the competition, now there are six games, and they will play again next Saturday, at home, against Colon in the Argentine Superliga’s 21st matchday.
