Last Sunday, Lanus hosted Estudiantes at the Ciudad de Lanus Stadium. The game was the penultimate matchday of the Argentine Superliga. It was an even match, and the 1-1 draw was fair enough. The goals were scored by Lanus’ Moreno and Estudiantes’ Colombo.
With the result, the home team maintained the sequence of games without losing and got into the top four of the Argentine league. On the other hand, Estudiantes remain in the 13th place and keep on without winning in the last four games.
The game started with a lot of balance between the two teams. It was Lanus who threatened first as within four minutes, Bernabei received a pass and finished from inside the area. His shot was saved though.
Furthermore, Estudiantes responded with Retegui. The striker received from Lucas Rodriguez but saw his finish being denied as the first half ended up with all square.
It was a completely different game after the break. The deadlock was broken in the 51st minute. Lanus’ Carlos Auzqui received down the right and picked Marcelino Moreno out inside the six-yard box. The Lanus player nodded home and opened the scoring for the hosts.
Soon after though, Estudiantes leveled things up in the 62nd min. Nazareno Colombo received a pass from Mauro Diaz on the right and risked it out from a narrow-angle. The ball hit the post and ended up in the back of the net. With that, the final result was 1-1.
In the 4th position in the Argentine Superliga, and fighting for a spot in the qualifying zone in the Copa Libertadores, Lanus will play their last match in the league against San Lorenzo. On the other hand, Estudiantes shifts its focus to the Argentine Cup, as they will welcome Laferrere next Wednesday.
