Since he was sent off on his debut under the Old Lady’s colors at the UEFA Champions League, there were a lot of speculations on whether he would or not be able to play against his former team, Manchester United.
Yeah, we’re talking about Cristiano Ronaldo. Depending on how hard UEFA had decided to go after the Portuguese star, it could define his destiny. Thankfully, he got the minimum punishment and was able to play against United.
And if Ronaldo couldn’t decide with goals, he helped Juventus out with an assist to Argentine youth Paulo Dybala.
Dybala, who said he is fortunate to have the chance to play besides Ronaldo at Juventus and with Lionel Messi with the Argentine National team, was in good conditions to just tap into the nets, after a fierce low cross from the Portuguese star, at the 17th minute.
Manchester United could not get out of the defensive half and seemed they were playing as an away side under Juventus’ domains. They ended up the first half having finished just once on target.
And they could have gone to the break 2 or even 3-0 down if it was not World-class Goalkeeper David De Gea. The Spaniard managed to save an incredible strike from Ronaldo from the edge of the box, straight to the top drawer. And denied Dybala and Joao Cancelo as well.
After the break, United came out a little bit better, and they rattled the post on a Paul Pogba attempt from distance. That would have been hard on Juventus, due to their dominance over the home side.
This was United’s fourth defeat at the Theatre of dreams in 12 games, and an increasing demand for Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho’s head is starting to get way stronger.
Both sides will now change their minds and will focus again on their National leagues. United will be playing at home again on Sunday, against Everton as Juventus will go to Empoli on Saturday.
