With the third round of the UEFA Champions League approaching, all we think about is the good matches and the great stars shining on the field, making incredible plays and scoring goals. However, injuries always happen and some amazing players will be unable to play this week.
Let’s see some players that certainly won’t play on this round of the UCL:
Lionel Messi is the biggest loss on this round. The number 10 of Barcelona suffered a fracture on his elbow during the match against Sevilla for the Spanish Championship. He will certainly be out of the duel against Internazionale. The Italian side will also be without one of his main players, once the midfielder Radja Nainggolan got injured on the derby against Milan.
Another important player out is Frank Ribery, from Bayern Munich, who is feeling pain in his back and is already outside the plans of the coach Niko Kovac to the match against AEK Athens.
In Juventus, two well-known names will be out. The German Emre Can, who can go under the knife because of his thyroid, and the Croatian Mario Mandzukic, who has a problem on his ankle. These two will be out of the match against Manchester United.
Real Madrid will not have Dani Carvajal, who is injured and will only come back in the middle of November.
Dele Alli, Victor Wanyama and Danny Rose won’t recover in time to help Tottenham on their match against PSV Eindhoven, while the Dutch side will not have Ryan Thomas, who has a problem on his knee.
Some English teams have doubts about the condition of some players, all caused by the international break. On Liverpool’s side, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita have chances to play, but they are very low. The number 10 broke his thumb and is still recovering. The Guinean suffered an injury on his tight and has lower chances than Mane.
In Manchester City, Kyle Walker is the biggest doubt that Pep Guardiola has to the match against Shakhtar Donetsk.
On the red side of Manchester, Victor Lindelöf, Jesse Lingard, Diogo Dalot, Marouane Fellaini and Scott McTominay didn’t train on Monday and weren’t confirmed for the match.
With all these losses, some teams can have problems, but one thing is certain: the UEFA Champions League will still have some amazing matches this week.
