This Tuesday, Tottenham welcomed West Ham for matchday 31 of the Premier League. At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the hosts were able to get the three points with a 2-0 victory. An own goal from Tomas Soucek and a goal from Harry Kane guaranteed their triumph.
Despite being at home and obviously the favorite, the Spurs didn’t create many opportunities in the early minutes. They were trying to take control of the match and attack more, but not quite being able to shoot and scare the opponent’s defense. The first good chance came only at the 22nd minute, with Lucas Moura. However, the attempt was saved by goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.
Before the end of the first half, the hosts are able to put the ball into the back of the net with Heung-Min Son, however, after the VAR checking the play, the goal was ruled out due to an offside position.
Coming back to the second half still goalless made Tottenham attack more. With that, West Ham basically didn’t have chances to reach their opponent’s goal. The pressure of the hosts was so big that, at the 64th minute, midfielder Soucek ended up putting the ball into the back of his own net after Giovani Lo Celso’s corner, opening the scoring for the home club.
Already close to the end of the match, at the 82nd minute, Jose Mourinho’s team was able to double their lead. Son found space between the Hammers’ defenders and found Kane, who, face to face with Fabianski, didn’t miss the chance.
With the 2-0 victory, Tottenham reached 45 points, still fighting for a place in next season’s Europa League, as they are in 7th place. West Ham, on the other hand, is fighting against relegation, with just 27 points, one point behind Watford, and in 17th place.
