Andrea Barzagli is living the last days of his career as a football player. This Saturday Juventus suffered a defeat for Spal by 2-1. After the match, the defender confirmed that he will retire at the end of the season.
“I thought a lot and got to the conclusion that this is the right moment. At the end of the season.”, he told Sky Sport Italia.
Playing for Juventus since 2011, Barzagli was always a fundamental player for the defense of the team. Side by side with Chiellini and Bonucci, they formed the “BBC” trio. He conquered the Italian Championship 7 times. This season, because of the injuries, he only played for 9 matches until now.
“Considering my age and all the injuries I have been facing, I will stop playing in June. I started the process to decide what to do after that. I’ve always dreamed of being a football player since I was little. Now I need to know what to do after this.”, he said.
Barzagli started his career in 1998, on Rondinella, and has always played in Italy – apart from the time he played for Wolfsburg. He was world champion with Italy in 2006, on Germany’s World Cup. And with Juventus, he basically won all possible titles that a team can get – missing only the Champions League, in which he is second place in 2015 and 2017. This year his team is very close to conquering the 8th title of the Italian League and is still fighting for the UCL. Barzagli could end his career with the most important title in Europe, which would be an amazing “finale”. Of course, the fans will miss him a lot, once he was very important for the team for a long time. All it’s left to do is enjoy his last matches and wait to see what the future holds for him.
