With a hectic start of the game, Juventus imposed themselves at the Stadio Olimpico to beat Roma 2-1 and to retake the top of the table in the Italian Serie A. Merih Demiral and Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winning goals for the Old Lady. Diego Perotti, from the penalty spot, discounted for the hosts.

With the result, Juventus surpassed Internazionale – who stumbled yesterday by only drawing 1-1 with Atalanta – and reached 48 points to go top of the table in the title race. Roma lost a position and got dropped to 5th place.

Juventus started the game by showing the courage to play aggressive football even away from home and were rewarded with two early goals.

Just after 2 minutes, a free-kick from Paulo Dybala on the left found Demiral who got ahead of Kolarov, then fired a right-footed shot that gave no chance for goalkeeper Pau Lopez to avoid it. 0-1 Juventus.

It was clearly a massive blow to Roma players and fans, as they all felt it.

The visitors kept attacking and reached the second goal on 10 mins. Dybala was brought down inside the box as the referee awarded a pen to Juventus. CR7 was the taker and the Portuguese did not disappoint through a strong finish. 0-2 Juventus.

After the break, Roma could put themselves together as they looked way more organized to press the Serie A leaders.

However, the inspired Juve goalkeeper Szczesny stopped every attempt by the Romans to attack, but the hosts were rewarded. 68 minutes into the match, after a VAR check, the referee awarded Roma a pen due to Alex Sandro handball inside of the area. Perotti stepped up and showed class to dislocate Szczesny and to put Roma back into the game. 1-2.

Roma pushed hard for a late equalizer, but resilient Juve knew how to suffer and held the hosts to go back to Turin with the three important points.
