Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has declared war on the Nations League. According to him, the European Competition is the most “senseless competition in the World”.
Surely, he has his reasons to complain about the new UEFA creation and consequently, the International break to the whole World. He has lost key players to injuries such as Egyptian star, Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita who sustained muscle injuries plus Senegalese Sadio Mane, who’s broken his thumb playing for his National team.
Liverpool will face Huddersfield Town away this Saturday for the Premier League and right after this game, they will host Red Star Belgrade for the UEFA Champions League at Anfield Road. Hopefully, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will be able to play at least for the European Competition – this time for their Club – and it would make the German manager a little bit relaxed.
Asked about the impact of the Nations League on his players and clubs, he said:
“I like competition but at one point somebody has to step back and think, they are players,”
“If they don’t perform I am angry, so how can we make sure they perform?”
He believes that there is no space for another competition with the same format of the Nations League, that National Teams are relegated, and there is one champion.
“The Nations League is a good idea but do it in another sport because in football there is no space for it.”
In fact, I guess Mr. Klopp is right. We’ve just witnessed boring games at the Nations League, even though the idea of the competition is good. However, 3 months ago we had a whole month with the World Cup. I think the priority should be the Clubs, who pays all the millionaire wages and are the main responsible to grow this whole passion that surrounds Football. International Breaks should be only three to four times a year.
