This Saturday Liverpool got the result they wanted, but not in the way they expected. The Reds confirmed their favoritism over Norwich City, in a 1-0 win away. The goal was scored by Senegal’s International, Sadio Mane.
Liverpool now boasts 25 wins and a draw in 26 Premier League matches. It is the best mark in the history of the main European leagues at this point in the competition – until then, the record was Bayern Munich, with 24 wins and two draws in the first 26 games in the 2013-14 German Bundesliga.
The points difference between Liverpool and Manchester City is now 25 points, as the Reds reached outstanding 76 points against 51 from Man City.
With a well-built defense, Norwich made the game very difficult for Liverpool in the first half. Jurgen Klopp’s men constantly had the ball at their feet and exchanged many passes, but were unable to get into the opponent’s area.
Norwich only managed to reach dangerously once, but Alisson Becker intervened and saved the Reds.
Liverpool kept on pressing Norwich in the second half, but the hosts’ resistance remained strong. But, little by little, Liverpool kept on their dominant pace and got Norwich defenders tired.
Naby Keita almost scored after goalkeeper Tim Krul dropped a rebounded ball to his feet, but the Guinea player missed it.
Klopp introduced Mane, who was recovering from injury, and the striker decided the game for the Reds. In the 77th minute, the captain Jordan Henderson picked Mane out through a long-ball, as the Senegalese controlled the ball and fired low at Krul’s corner. 0-1 Liverpool.
After that, Roberto Firmino still missed an easy goal just minutes from the end, but it didn’t make any difference for Liverpool, who won once again and are counting the weeks to lift the trophy.
It’s really only a matter of time until Liverpool win their first Premier League title. The Reds walk on towards the easiest League win in all time. Following a 30-year long wait, it seems like the League title will go to Liverpool with interest rates and everything.
