Who would’ve thought that the mighty Internazionale would suffer that much against Group F underdogs Slavia Praha… Debuting in the UEFA Champions League at the magnificent San Siro, Internazionale played poorly and were held to a 1-1 draw against the Czech team. We can even say that Antonio Conte’s side deserved to lose, as Slavia played bravely, and opened the scoring through the good Olayinka. Nicolo Barella was the Internazionale savior as he scored a late goal which gave Inter the sole point.

We all expected an absurd pressure from Inter Milan in the first half. However, what was seen was an even clash, as both teams had about the same ball possession. The Italians, however, had more opportunities and moved closer to the opposing goal. Belgian center forward Romelu Lukaku had the first opportunity, despite being well marked by the Czech defense. Argentine Lautaro Martinez was the most dangerous player and almost scored in individual play.

Slavia Praha had difficulty setting up, especially in the midfield. Conte’s team, in turn, slowed down from 25 minutes and counted on the long balls as one of their weapons. D’Ambrosio came close to scoring with a header but keeper Kolar made a great save.

Shortly after the break, Slavia Prague surprised and opened the scoring, increasing the pressure on Inter Milan. After a great save from Handanovic, Olayinka swelled his foot to catch the rebound. 0-1 Slavia.

After the goal, the Italians went with everything after the draw but suffered from nervousness at the finishing time.

Antonio Conte tried to improve the midfield with Barella and Politano’s inflows and, despite the problems in the offensive sector, got the equalizer already in the additional time. Stefano Sensi tried from the edge of the box and the ball exploded off the crossbar. However, the ball rebounded back to Barella, who in a right-footed shot, scored into Kolar’s right corner. 1-1.

Following the 1-1- draw at San Siro, Inter Milano will play the UEFA Champions League Matchday 2 at the Camp Nou, against Barcelona, on October 2. Slavia will host Dortmund, on the same day.
