It is no news that Barcelona has shown, and even declared that they wish to count on Internazionale’s Lautaro Martinez. However, the financial crisis the club is going through has been a major obstacle in the negotiations, causing the Catalans to go for low-cost options.
Defined as the main candidate to be Luis Suarez’s replacement, the Argentine has come from a great season at Internazionale, and that made the Italians play a tough game in the negotiations.
However, some sources in Italy claim that the Nerazzurri would be willing to accept Frenchman Antoine Griezmann as a bargaining chip.
The new Chinese owners of the club, do not show financial problems to invest in the club, leaving Barca to the last option of trying to sign the Argentine by paying his whole termination fee with the Milan-based club.
That would cost around 111 million euros, and it’s claimed to be totally out of the reality of the Catalan club at the moment. So, a swap between Griezmann and Lautaro is not ruled out for the part of the Catalans.
That would be a win-win situation, as Griezmann didn’t adapt himself in the Barcelona way, and Internazionale’s new owners want to sign a lot of big names to reinforce the Nerazzurri. Their main goal would be to end Juventus’ mad win streak in the Italian Serie A and make Inter go back to the top of Europe as well. So the Frenchman would be a good start.
However, from the Inter’s point of view, the ideal scenario would be to keep Lautaro, as the Argentine has a lot of room to improve, and his partnership with Romelu Lukaku is one of the biggest things in Europe right now.
It would be a great deal for Barcelona though, as they would get rid of an expensive reserve, and would acquire another Argentine. It’s also believed that Martinez’s adaption to Barcelona would be better and faster than Griezmann’s, as the Argentine would have Messi – who approves the idea of Lautaro to Barca -, and would guide him to, who knows, be his substitute at Barcelona.
