This Saturday, Leicester welcomed Crystal Palace for matchday 33 of the Premier League. At the King Power Stadium, the hosts took advantage of an inspired Jamie Vardy during the second half to get a 3-0 victory over their opponents. The English striker scored two goals, while Kelechi Iheanacho scored the other to guarantee the three points.
Whenever Leicester play at home, they normally seek to control the match since the beginning, and it was exactly what we saw. Since the start of the first half, the Foxes controlled the attacks, even though they didn’t have any clear chances of swinging the net. Mainly, they were lacking aim, because they had some good opportunities.
Meanwhile, the Eagles didn’t really threaten Kasper Schmeichel’s goal and with that, they went to the half-time with no goals.
As soon as they started the second half, the hosts were finally able to break the deadlock. At the 59th minute, midfielder Youri Tielemans sent a low cross to the box. Goalkeeper Vicente Guaita wasn’t able to clear it and the ball was left to Iheanacho, who used his right foot to put the ball into the back of the net.
After conceding the goal, Palace went for an equalizer. They even managed to force Schmeichel to make a good save to avoid the goal of Gary Cahill’s free-kick. But it was basically that. The rest of the match, the hosts were the ones to control most plays.
Already close to the end of the match, the Foxes were still able to swing the net another two times, both with Vardy. First, at the 77th minute, the number 9 received from Harvey Barnes and hit into the back of an empty net. Then, already at the injury time, at 90+4, he scored again to secure his place as the top scorer of this season, at least for now.
With the 3-0 victory, Leicester finally finished their bad sequence of matches and reached 58 points, in 3rd place. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace stopped at 42 points, in 14th place.
