Hellas Verona and Lazio faced off for matchday 36 of the Serie A TIM. At the Marcantonio Bentegod Stadium, the team from the capital got a stunning comeback, trashing the hosts by 5-1 and leaving with the three points. Three goals of the top scorer, Ciro Immobile, one from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and one from Joaquin Correa guaranteed the visitors victory. Sofyan Amrabat diminished for the home team.
During the first half, we saw a pretty equal game, with both teams having the ball and creating plays. After a few tries, Verona had the perfect chance to break the deadlock. At the 39th minute, Nordin Amrabat was brought down inside the box and the referee awarded them a penalty. Sofyan Amrabat stepped up and converted from the spot.
After suffering the goal, Lazio started to attack more and, with 6 minutes of injury time, were able to level the match before half-time. At the last minute, they were also awarded a penalty and Immobile converted from the spot, leaving the scoring 1-1 as the teams went to the locker room.
In the second half, the Biancocelesti showed that they wanted to leave the pitch with the three points, not being satisfied with a draw. So, at the 56th minute, Milinkovic-Savic put the ball into the back of the net on a beautiful free-kick shot, completing the visitors’ turnaround.
But they didn’t stop after that. 7 minutes later, Joaquin Correa scored the third. The number 11 received the ball inside the box and hit into the far corner, with no chances to goalkeeper Boris Radunovic.
There was still time for two more goals from the Biancocelesti. At the 83rd minute, Immobile’s stunner ended with any chances for Verona to at least search for an equalizer. And, already at the injury time, at 90+4, the number 17 appeared again to score his hat-trick and put the hosts to bed.
With the 5-1 victory, Lazio reached 75 points, the same as Atalanta and only one point behind Inter Milan, remaining in 4th place. Meanwhile, Hellas Verona kept in 9th place, with 46 points.
