Opening this Matchday 27 of the Bundesliga, Hertha Belin and Union Berlin faced each other on the Berlin derby. Hertha didn’t acknowledge their opponent and got an amazing 4-0 victory. The goals were scored by Vedad Ibisevic, Dodi Lukebakio, Matheus Cunha, and Dedryck Boyata.
The first half started with few chances of goal and a somehow boring game. The best chances were obviously for Hertha and Union were betting on set-pieces to bring at least a little trouble to the hosts.
Before half time, Hertha had two chances of breaking the deadlock, with Lukebakio and Matheus Cunha, both however stopped on the goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz. The visitors once had a chance, on the 43rd minute, in a free-kick, but Robert Andrich sent the ball away.
In the second half, things were pretty different. Hertha Berlin came back more focused and putting pressure. With that, they opened the scoring at the 51st minute with Ibisevic’s beautiful header.
Just one minute later, Union Berlin had trouble with the ball in their defensive system and Lukebakio took the opportunity to double the scoring.
Hertha continued to run over their opponent and, at 61st minute, Matheus Cunha made a great move and put the ball into the back of the net, with no chance for the goalkeeper.
And they still had plenty of time to score another goal. At the 77th minute, defender Boyata jumped higher than the defense in a corner kick and headed home to complete the 4-0 victory.
With this victory, Hertha Berlin reaches 34 points and now is the tenth position in the table. Meanwhile, Union Berlin comes to a negative streak of four games without a win and add 30 Bundesliga points.
Both teams go back to the field during the week, for Matchday 28. Hertha will have a difficult time, once they will visit RB Leipzig on Wednesday. On the same day, Union will welcome Mainz, trying to finally get a good result.
