Multi-champion wherever he went, French striker Thierry Henry surprised everyone by declaring that it was easier to play for Arsenal than for Barcelona.
Well, surprise to some, cause Henry is a legend at Arsenal, as he was the main man on that season the Gunners went invincible at the Premier League.
In a talk with Man City’s Sergio Aguero, the Frenchman did not hide his bias towards the London team play. It is worth mentioning though, that during his time in Catalonia, Henry played alongside prime Ronaldinho, Messi, and Samuel Eto´o, among other stars.
He had this to say:
“In London, I could walk wherever I wanted in the countryside. I had Bergkamp and Kanu on the team, and they wanted to play in the mid, so I could play on the left, on the right, I had freedom. When I arrived in Barcelona, ??I had to learn a completely different game style, with less freedom ”, said Henry.
The Frenchman spent eight seasons at Arsenal, from 1999 to 2007. He’s part of that generational Arsenal team with Dennis Bergkamp, and prime Arsene Wenger on the sidelines.
As mentioned before, Henry carried Arsenal to a feat no other club has ever done, which is to win the Premier League unbeaten. It is true, however, that they drew almost a third of those games, but they didn’t really lose a match back then.
He’s remembered with joy until nowadays by Arsenal fans, as the eternal number 14. The only thing Henry didn’t win for Arsenal was the UEFA Champions League, as they lost the final.
Since Henry left Arsenal to Barcelona, the Gunners were never the same, as, among the English big-five, and assuming Liverpool will win this 2019-2020 Premier League, they are the ones who spent longer without winning the Premier League.
