If we could summarize the Chelsea – West Ham match this Monday at Stamford Bridge, we would simply two words: Eden Hazard. Chelsea’s number 10 played a decisive role against the Hammers. He created chances, stepped up, and scored both goals in the 2-0 win over West Ham. I personally think Hazard is very overrated. You don’t really see him doing that at big games. And he seems to feel the pressure in crucial moments. Think about last year’s World Cup. Belgium reached the third place, but their main players were Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne.
If you go back a little further, to Brazil’s World Cup, you will see the same thing. As well as Chelsea’s successive failures at the UEFA Champions League. The number 10 is always missed. Always hidden. However, against West Ham on Matchday 33 in the Premier League, he led the Blues to the 2-0 triumph.
He broke the halt at the 24th minute. Hazard got the ball in the midfield, drove forward, dribbled three defenders, and completed his masterpiece in a clinical finish. Hence, no chances for West Ham’s keeper, Lukasz Fabianski. 1-0 Chelsea.
The Belgian tried to be benevolent as well. He fed Gonzalo Higuain at least three times where the Argentine striker was in good conditions to widen the lead. However, all of them were thrown away.
After the break, West Ham came back better than they ended up the first half. They were trying to attack and played aggressive football. Brazilian Felipe Anderson and Argentine Manuel Lanzini had the best opportunities for the Hammers. However, it wasn’t their day.
As time went on, the Hammers threw themselves at Chelsea and gave the Blues too many spaces for counter-attacks. In the minute 90th, Ross Barkley’s cross from the left found Hazard inside the box. The Belgium international controlled the ball and fired home past Fabianski once again. 2-0 Chelsea.
With the 2-0 win over the Hammers, the Blues reached the 3rd position in the table, with 66 points. They have one game more than their opponents though. Chelsea have 33 games, as Tottenham, Arsenal, and Manchester United have 32. West Ham are the 11th-placed, with 42 points. The fight for the top four is insane. Everything could happen right now. However, we need to mention that all of the teams have chances to make it through European Competitions. Arsenal and Chelsea are at the Europa League, as United and Spurs are at the Champions League. Who will be playing at the Champions League next season? What about the Europa League? Who will play only English competitions? Leave a comment below with your thoughts!
