This Saturday, Borussia Dortmund faced Werder Bremen at the Weser-Stadion seeking revenge on the elimination of the German Cup. And they did it thanks to goals from defender Dan-Axel Zagadou and, of course, the young star Erling Braut Haaland, getting a good 2-0 victory and the important 3 points.
The first half was not very busy. The two teams were unable to impose themselves and had a hard time creating the plays. The most dangerous shot was from the home side when Omer Toprak’s header went very close to Roman Burki’s goal.
The second half started completely different from the first one. Dortmund started putting pressure in search of the goal and didn’t take long until they controlled the match and opened the scoring. At the 52nd minute, Jadon Sancho’s corner met Zagadou, who used his right foot to put the ball into the back of the net.
The Black and Yellow continued playing aggressively and at the 66th minute, they doubled the scoring. Hakimi received the ball on the right and low crossed it to Haaland, who got ahead from the defender and sent a powerful shot past the goalkeeper to score his 9th goal in Bundesliga and guarantee the victory to his team.
With the result, Dortmund remains in third place, with 45 points. They are now 3 points behind Leipzig and 4 points behind Bayern Munich. Werder Bremen, on the other hand, has a terrible campaign in the Bundesliga and is in the 17th position. The River Islanders will have to continue their fight against relegation, which will be difficult if they keep on playing this poor football. If they play like that did on the DFB Cup, they may avoid it.
Both teams come back to the pitch next weekend, for matchday 24 of the German Championship. Borussia Dortmund will welcome Freiburg on Saturday, while Werder Bremen will welcome Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.
