This Saturday Dusseldorf and Borussia Monchengladbach faced off in matchday 22 of the Bundesliga. Playing away from home, in the Spiel Arena, the Foals left the field with a good victory by 4-1. Jonas Hofmann, Lars Stindl, twice, and Florian Neuhaus scored the winning goal for the visitors. Erik Thommy scored the consolation goal for the hosts.
As we all expected, Monchengladbach were the ones to take control of the match, leading the clash. The goal was a matter of time and it came at the 22nd minute when Hofmann received an assist from Thuram to put the ball into the back of the net.
However, the hosts were brave and managed to equalize just a few minutes later. Seven minutes after conceding the goal, Thommy received a cross from Ayhan and put the ball past goalkeeper Yan Sommer. Both teams then went to half-time with the draw on the scoring.
The second half, however, showed that the Foals were really the better team. Lars Stindl received a pass from Thuram, who gave his second assist of the night and put his team once again ahead. At the 77th minute, the number 13 scored once again, increasing their advantage.
At the end of the match, at the 82nd minute, Florian Neuhaus gave final numbers to the match, scoring Gladbach’s fourth goal and guaranteeing the 3 points.
With the defeat, Dusseldorf remains in 16th place, which would lead the team for the relegation playoffs. Borussia Monchengladbach, on the other hand, closes the top 4, reaching the same 42 points as Dortmund.
With no European competitions to play, both teams will rest the week and come back to the pitch next weekend, for matchday 23 of Bundesliga. On Saturday, Fortuna Dusseldorf will travel to face Freiburg, while Monchengladbach will welcome Hoffenheim.
