This Tuesday, Chelsea welcomed Norwich for matchday 36 of the Premier League. At the Stamford Bridge, the Blues were pressed to get the three points because of the bad loss last matchday against Sheffield, but also because they were playing against the already relegated Norwich. However, they didn’t impress and got only a simple 1-0 victory thanks to Olivier Giroud’s header.
The hosts started the game with a few changes on the squad, obviously trying to go after the good result. However, things didn’t seem so effective as they were in theory. Even though they had more the ball, just like on their last matches, once again they were not creating good opportunities to really open the scoring. The strikers were lacking aim and, when they finally managed to hit on target, goalkeeper Tim Krul appeared to make some good defenses.
It seemed that the first half would end on a goalless draw and all would be left to the second half, but Chelsea managed to change that at the injury time. At 45+3, Giroud received a crossing from Christian Pulisic and put the ball into the back of the net to create a small advantage for the home side.
The Canaries came better during the second half, having more the ball. They didn’t have anything to lose and thought that maybe they could threaten their opponents. It was not really what happened, once goalkeeper Kepa didn’t have to make any actual saves.
The hosts still had one good chance to increase their lead, again with the French striker Giroud, but the ball went wide. With that, the match ended on a simple 1-0 win to the Blues.
With the victory, Chelsea remained in 3rd place, now with 63 points. They keep just one point ahead of both Leicester and Manchester United. Meanwhile, Norwich are already relegated and will just keep playing to fulfill their schedule.
