Getafe is literally living in a fairytale season! This Saturday, the Blue team got its fourth victory in a row in Spanish La Liga this Saturday, for matchday 23. Jose Bordalas’ men beat Valencia by 3-0 and showed that they are really fighting for qualifying to the Champions League for the first time in their history. The goals were scored by Jorge Molina and Jaime Mata.
During the first half, Valencia seemed to be happy with getting one point, once they didn’t show any ambitions to attack. Getafe, on the other hand, were playing very well and were only lacking the goal. And they got it right at the beginning of the second half.
At the 58th minute, Molina broke the deadlock. The number 19 took advantage of a rebound giving by goalkeeper Jaume Domenech and put the ball into the back of the net to make the first goal of the home side.
The 37-year-old veteran striker doubled their lead ten minutes later, after rounding four defenders from Valencia before slotting home with his left foot.
In the final minutes, Getafe were even more dominant than before, after Alessandro Florenzi saw a red card, due to a tough challenge on Marc Cucurella, and left Valencia down to 10 players at the 78th minute. Almost ten minutes later, Mata sealed the victory after scoring from an assist from Angel.
The three points were very important to Getafe, especially being against Valencia. Their rivalry increased over the last few years after Valencia had twice ended with Getafe’s dreams last season.
With the victory, the Azulones keep in the third place, now with 42 points, 4 points behind Barcelona and 7 behind Madrid. They are getting closer and closer from being on next season’s UCL. Valencia, on the other hand, dropped to the 6th position, with 37 points.
Both teams will come back to the pitch next weekend. Getafe will have a difficult match against Barcelona, in Camp Nou, on Saturday. Valencia will welcome Atletico Madrid, one day before.
