Closing Premier League’s 30th Matchday, Manchester City hosted Burnley at an empty Etihad Stadium and destroyed the visitors. Youngster Phil Foden was the Cityzens’ standout scoring a brace. Argelia international Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva scored the other goals for the home-side.
With the 5-0 win, Liverpool will have to wait up until at least Thursday to celebrate the long-awaited Premier League title. All the Reds have to do is to beat Crystal Palace on Wednesday and also support Chelsea to get points off Man City on Thursday.
Pep Guardiola’s men kicked-off the 5-0 rout through England’s future, Foden. On 23 minutes, Foden was triggered in a short corner-kick, as he tried from outside the box, slotting it at the corner. 1-0 Man City.
The hosts could wrap it up still in the first half, as Mahrez scored with 43 on the clock in a beautiful solo-play, and, moments later, Sergio Aguero was fouled inside the area. The VAR gave the penalty as Mahrez, again, scored for the Cityzens.
After the break, with the game pretty much decided, Man City just administrated the game, and still managed to score twice more. On 51, Bernardo Silva capitalized on a beautiful build-up play from Man City, as the ball went for him, and he scored.
The 5th was scored after a quick counter-attack, Foden got a left-over ball inside the box and volleyed it home past Burnley keeper to close it up for the Cityzens.
With the victory, the Citizens reached 62 points, while Burnley stays in 11th position with 39 points. In the sequence of the Premier League, Man City will maybe decide the Premier League title against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, on Thursday, as Burnley will host Watford on the same day.
