This Wednesday, Famalicao welcomed Porto for matchday 25 of Liga NOS. At an empty Estadio Municipal de Famalicao, the hosts managed to beat the leader of the championship by 2-1. Fabio Martins and Pedro Goncalves were the ones who scored for the home side, while Jesus Manuel Corona scored the only goal of the Dragons.
The first half started with Porto, the leaders of the league before the stoppage, controlling the ball. It was important for them to get a victory, or they could lose the first place. Early in the game, Moussa Marega wasted a good opportunity, sending a weak shot that facilitated the defense of goalkeeper Rafael Defendi.
After that, the home side responded with Diego Goncalves. The number 17 made a great move, but his finish went wide. Then, the visitors were the ones controlling the attack once again. They had some good chances of breaking the deadlock, but in the end, they went to the break goalless.
Famalicao came back for the second half showing they wanted the three points and scored at the 48th minute, with the help of Porto’s goalkeeper. Agustin Marchesin tried to kick the ball forward but it was too weak, leaving the ball at the feet of Martins. The number 11 only had to put the ball into the back of an empty net.
The hosts almost doubled the scorer with Toni Martinez, however, the striker sent his shot over the bar.
After suffering in the initial minutes, Porto finally were able to put pressure on the opponent again and managed to draw the match. At the 74th minute, Sergio Oliveira found Corona, who didn’t wast the opportunity given and sent the ball into the back of the net.
The Dragons’ happiness didn’t last much. 4 minutes later, Pedro Goncalves made a great individual play and beat Marchesin, hitting the right top corner.
Porto still tried to equalize things again, but it was too late. In the end, the match finished 2-1 to Famalicao.
With the victory, Famalicao went back to the qualifying zone for the Europa League, being now in 5th place with 40 points. Porto, on the other hand, dropped to second place after Benfica’s game against Tondela.
