On Monday, Sheffield United welcomed Everton for matchday 37 of the Premier League. At the Bramall Lane, the Blues of Liverpool were able to leave with the three points after a simple 1-0 win over the home team. The only goal of the match was scored by Richarlison.
Playing at home and wanting the three points to keep fighting for a place in next season’s Europa League, Sheffield started the first half putting pressure on the visitors. The Toffees were having trouble completing passes and were constantly being threatened as the hosts were sending a lot of crossings into the box.
As time went by, the visitors were able to diminish the control of the home team, starting to create a few opportunities. But honestly, both teams just really threatened their opponents’ goals in the last minutes of the first half. Sheffield arrived with Ben Osborn, whose shot stopped on a great defense of Jordan Pickford. Meanwhile, Everton’s best attempt hit the crossbar, scaring goalkeeper Dean Henderson. With that, both teams went to the locker room goalless.
Things changed already at the beginning of the second half, as the visitors were able to break the deadlock. At the 46th minute, Gylfi Sigurdsson’s crossing went straight to Richarlison’s head and the Brazilian put the ball into the back of the nets to become the top scorer of his team in the Premier League.
After suffering the goal, the Blades threw themselves onto their opponents, seeking for an equalizer. However, they were abusing on long balls, not really taking time to create good plays. Honestly, the visitors didn’t suffer much to hold that 1-0 win and leave with the three points.
With the victory, Everton reached 49 points and remain in 11th place. Meanwhile, Sheffield United don’t have chances of going to the Europa League anymore, as they are in 8th place, with 54 points.
