Chelsea completed the signing of play-maker Christian Pulisic in a deal worth £58 million from Borussia Dortmund.
After being signed, Pulisic was immediately loaned back to Dortmund where he will spend the rest of the season before linking up with the Blues during the summer.
With the future of Eden Hazard being uncertain, the United States international may have to play a big role for the West London giants next season.
Hazard has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid that reportedly views the Belgian as the best person to act as a direct replacement to Cristiano Ronaldo who joined Juventus last summer. Hazard’s current contract at Stamford Bridge is set to expire during the summer of 2020 and this means that if he does not sign a new deal soon, the club will have to sell him next summer or risk losing him very cheaply next season.
Pulisic is a quality player though he has not been playing regularly for Dortmund during recent months due to the emergence of England international Jadon Sancho. The duo of Willian and Pedro are also not getting younger and the signing of the American is a sign that the club is now preparing for the future.
Pulisic is touted as being the best player the US has produced and is expected to act as the face of the American soccer for the next decade at least.
In addition to being able to add quality on the field, Pulisic may have been a good business investment for the Blues. He will bring the club new support from North America and with it may also come marketing and business deals from big American brands.
We will have to wait and see next season whether Pulisic is able to live up to his potential. He can become one of the world’s best but will have to be managed properly.
