This Wednesday, West Ham welcomed Chelsea for matchday 32 of the Premier League. At the London Stadium, the Hammers surprised the visitors and were able to get a late win by 3-2. Tomas Soucek, Michail Antonio, and Andriy Yarmolenko guaranteed the three points to the hosts. Willian scored the two goals of the Blues.
The beginning of the first half showed a dominating Chelsea. They basically controlled not only the ball but also most part of the offensive actions. It is true that the hosts had the first good dangerous arrival of the match but after that, the visitors were the ones who actually created good opportunities for scoring.
Only after halfway through the first half that West Ham were finally able to equalize things again. And they almost opened the scoring at the 34th minute. However, the goal was ruled out by an offside position.
After that little shock, the Blues went back to attacking and were awarded a penalty, after Christian Pulisic was brought down inside the box, at the 42nd minute. Willian stepped up and converted from the spot, breaking the deadlock and giving Frank Lampard’s men the lead.
The Hammers were still able to equalize things before half time. At 45+2, after a corner kick, Soucek jumped higher than the defender to head the ball into the back of the net.
The second half started like the first ended, with the hosts scoring. At the 51st minute, Antonio appeared in the middle of the 6-yard-box to put Jarrod Bowen’s cross into the back of the net, with no chances to goalkeeper Kepa.
Chelsea took a while to get back into the match, but when they did, they found the equalizer with Willian. At the 72nd minute, the Brazilian took a free-kick and the ball hit the post before going into the back of the net. Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski even tried to save, but it was impossible. A beautiful goal from Chelsea’s number 10.
When everybody thought the match would end on both teams sharing points, Yarmolenko appeared. At the 89th minute, after a fast counter-attack, the Ukrainian striker entered the box and sent a strong shot in the far post to guarantee the three points to the hosts.
With the victory, West Ham reached 30 points but is still in a difficult position in 16th place. Meanwhile, Chelsea stopped at 54 points, in 4th place, seeing United just 2 points behind them.
