After being momentarily out of the Champions League qualifying zone, RB Leipzig visited Mainz 05 and ended up grabbing a 5-0 win over the hosts. The Opel Arena for the 27th Matchday of the 2019-20 Bundesliga saw a visitors’ show run by Timo Werner, who netted a hat-trick. Poulsen and Sabitzer also scored.
Leipzig kicked the game off imposing their own rhythm at the Opel Arena, and they grabbed the opener on 11 minutes, through Werner. Laimer crossed for the German to fire home to the back of the net.
With the goal, the Liverpool target ended a four-game goal drought.
And it didn’t take long for the Leipzig’s second to come out. In a rehearsed move, Sabitzer picked unmarked Poulsen out, as the latter scored his fifth Bundesliga goal.
Visitors Leipzig wasted a lot of chances in the first half, but still could reach the third one. Following a rebounded ball, Poulsen assisted Sabitzer, who got his goal to make it three.
After the break, Timo showed he was on fire and scored twice more to complete his hat-trick. In a great move, Kampl assisted Werner, who made it four and decreed the Bulls rout at the Opel Arena.
Mainz was being completely dominated at his own domains, and could only get their first shot on target with 52 on the clock.
After that, the Bulls reduced their tempo in the game, but still scored the 5th through Werner. 5-0 RB Leipzig.
Both teams play next Wednesday in Matchday 28. Seeking to stay at the top four, RB Leipzig will face Hertha Berlin at the RB Arena. Meanwhile, Mainz will go to Berlin to play against Union Berlin.
