Vitoria Setubal welcomed Belenenses for the last day of the Liga NOS. At the Estadio do Bonfim, the hosts needed the positive result to avoid relegation and were able to leave with the three points after a good 2-0 win. Goals from Jubal Rocha and Bruno Pires guaranteed the home side’s victory.
Anyone could see that Vitoria wanted the victory, as they started putting pressure on their opponents since the beginning of the first half. Already in the early minutes, goalkeeper Kouakou Koffi was scared by Zequinha’s shot from 20 yards out.
At the 31st minute, they broke the deadlock with Jubal. After a corner, the number 3 jumped higher than the defense and headed the ball into the back of the net. The team from Setubal almost doubled their lead, but the VAR ruled their goal out after an offside position. So, they went to the locker room with a small 1-0 lead.
The second half was not that different, as the hosts kept on putting pressure and scaring their opponents. Belenenses also had good chances and almost equalized with Marcos Matias’s attempt, but the ball looped onto the roof of the goal. Another chance was lost by the away team, this time with Keita. The number 50 was face-to-face with goalkeeper Giorgi Makaridze but ended up sending a weak shot that didn’t really threaten.
It seemed that the match would end like that, until the injury time. At 90+6, Bruno Pires received a wicked delivery and killed off the game, giving his team a 2-0 victory over their opponents.
The result was very important to Vitoria Setubal, as the three points kept them in 16th place, with 34 points, avoiding relegation. Meanwhile, Belenenses were already not fighting for anything and they finished the League with 35 points, in 14th place.
