Union Berlin has been attracting a lot of attention since they are making history in the League and are a team from the German capital that reached the Bundesliga after a hard time. And playing at home this Saturday in Bundesliga’s Matchday 3, the modest team from Berlin, beat the powerful Borussia Dortmund 3-1 and got their first victory in the history of the competition.
With much of their fans cheering before, during and at the end of the match, thus creating a superb atmosphere, the home team came to a triumph with two goals from Marius Bulter and one from Andersson, as Paco Alcacer scored for the Dortmund side.
The same fans last week, celebrated the 1-1 draw against Augsburg away as if it was a title. This Saturday, with a successful counter-attack strategy against a much more traditional team, they saw Union Berlin’s first triumph, which takes the team to 10th position, now with four points.
Borussia Dortmund, who lost the chance to maintain their 100% success in the championship, kept six points in fifth place, leaving leaders RB Leipzig, who have nine, to top the German League.
This Saturday, the deadlock was broken on 22 minutes of the first half through Bulter. However, the visitors quick-fired through Paco Alcacer just three minutes later.
Despite the 1-1 draw in the first half, Union Berlin was the brightest side. After the interval, Bulter put the hosts ahead again, as he took advantage of a messy defensive line formed by Lucien Favre, on 50 minutes. 2-1 Union Berlin.
The hosts wrapped the game up on 75 minutes, through Sebastian Andersson, making the local fans going crazy with the dream coming true in front of their eyes. But they should thank Dortmund’s keeper, Roman Burki, as he had an enormous contribution to Union Berlin’s victory, as he could have done better in literally all of the goals conceded by Dortmund.
