Closing Premier League’s 33rd Matchday, Tottenham welcomed Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this Monday. The hosts were able to leave with the three points after a simple 1-0 victory. The only goal of the match was scored by Everton’s Michael Keane, who sent the ball into his own net.
The first half started without much intensity, but as time went by, the Spurs started having more the ball and, consequently, going more into the attacking field. The Toffees, on the other hand, were having difficulties to create opportunities and didn’t really threaten Hugo Lloris’ goal during the early minutes.
Honestly, the hosts were closer to finding the goal, and they really did, on a very unfortunate play for Carlo Ancelotti’s men. At the 24th minute, Giovani Lo Celso shot and the ball deflected in Keane’s chest, changing its direction and killing any possibilities of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford saving it. Obviously, it was an own goal from Everton’s number 5.
After suffering the goal, the visitors did not really have real chances of equalizing. Their best opportunity was with Richarlison, who tried from outside the box already in the last minutes of the first half but ended up sending it wide. With that, they went to the locker room behind in the scoring.
At half-time, as players were getting ready to leave the pitch for their dressing rooms, there was a bust-up between Tottenham’s Lloris and Heung-Min Son. Both players almost physically clashed, but Spurs players could overcome it with a hug before getting back to the pitch in the second half.
After the break, the Toffees tried to go after a goal, with the manager making some changes in order to improve the team. This time, they were capable of bringing danger to goalkeeper Lloris, who was obligated to make three difficult saves to avoid the equalizer. However, even with the good chances from the visitors, the scoring didn’t change and the Spurs won by 1-0.
With the victory, Tottenham reached the same 48 points as Sheffield United, but are in 8th place. Meanwhile, Everton remained in 11th place, with the same 44 points.
