Tottenham went to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton on Saturday and lost again, this time for a sore but fair 3-0. Neal Maupay and Aaron Connolly, twice, scored the goals of the match, which shows very forcefully that some changes need to be made at the Spurs, as their strategies no longer work. Some Spurs fans even consider a possible Mauricio Pochettino departure.
More than the poor results, especially the historic 7-2 home-defeat to Bayern midweek in the UEFA Champions League, it’s the poor football played and the individual fails. Spurs fans are happy with the international break that will give the team a two-week time off to try to put themselves together.
The game started in the worst possible way. Before 3 minutes, a cross in the area and Lloris seemed that he would save it with no further complications. However, the goalkeeper failed to keep it, fumbled the ball into Maupay’s path, who just tapped into the bottom of the nets. 1-0 Brighton.
The worst part is that Lloris landed very weirdly, on his left arm, and apparently broke it. He had to be subbed off by Paulo Gazzaniga, and reports say he can miss the rest of the season.
At 32 ‘, everything got worse when in a new cross from the left flank, Connolly finished on Gazzaniga, but himself got the rebound and slotted past the substitute goalkeeper. 2-0 Brighton.
After the break, the Spurs kept with the poor football displayed, and Brighton needed 20 mins into the half to kill the game. On 65, again from the left, Connolly got the ball, powered into the box, rounded Toby Alderweireld, and beautifully scored past Gazzaniga. What a goal from the striker. 3-0 Brighton.
Following the 3-0 defeat, Tottenham will only be back on October 19, when they will host Watford in the Premier League.
