In the North-London derby this Sunday, Tottenham hosted Arsenal for matchday 35 of the Premier League. At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Gunners controlled much of the game’s actions and even opened the scoring, but the Spurs were the ones that left with the three points with a 2-1 victory. Heung-Min Son and Toby Alderweireld scored for the hosts, while Alexandre Lacazette scored for the visitors.
The beginning of the first half was really exciting. With less than one minute, goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez already had to make a good save to avoid the hosts’ goal after Lucas’ shot. And after that, the Spurs had other good chances, only stopping at the 27-year-old keeper.
Even with the dominance from the home team, the ones that broke the deadlock were the visitors. At the 16th minute, Granit Xhaka stole the ball already in the attacking field and it was left to Lacazette, who sent a strong shot into the top-left corner. No chances to goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
However, the Gunners didn’t have much time to celebrate because 3 minutes later the hosts found the equalizer. Sead Kolasinac’s pass to David Luiz was too strong and, even though the Brazilian ran to the ball, Son got there sooner and put the ball into the back of the net with a beautiful finish.
Before the end of the first half, Arsenal almost scored again, in two different opportunities. However, both times the ball went wide. With that, they went to the locker room with a 1-1 draw.
During the second half, the Spurs focused more on the counter-attacks, letting the ball with the Gunners. It gave the visitors more control of the match and it made goalkeeper Lloris work a little more than in the first half. Even with their dominance, Arsenal just couldn’t swing the net for the second time.
The hosts, on the other hand, found a late goal to complete their comeback. At the 81st minute, after a corner, Alderweirel jumped higher than the defense to send a header into the top-right corner and give the three points to the hosts.
With the 2-1 victory, Tottenham reached 52 points and passed Arsenal on the table, being now in 8th place. The Gunners stopped at 50 points and dropped to 9th place.
