This Thursday, Sporting FC welcomed Tondela for matchday 27 of Liga NOS. At Jose Alvalade Stadium, the hosts guaranteed their victory by 2-0 already during the first half. Jovane Cabral and Andraz Sporar scored the goals.
Sporting started the first half putting pressure on their opponents. However, they took 13 minutes to finally shot on target… And break the deadlock. In a beautiful free-kick shot, Jovane Cabral didn’t give any chance to goalkeeper Claudio Ramos, putting the ball into the back of the net and opening the scoring.
After that, both sides were having trouble getting to the attack and created few opportunities. The visitors were searching for an equalizer, but their attempts stopped in good saves from goalkeeper Luis Maximiano.
Then, at the 30th minute, the hosts had the chance to double the scoring once they were awarded a penalty after a handball inside the box. Sporar stepped up and, even though goalkeeper Ramos went to the right side, there were no chances of avoiding the goal.
Five minutes later, Tondela almost found a goal when Jeremy Mathieu headed against his own goal. Lucky him that the ball hit the crossbar. With that, they went to the locker rooms two goals behind on the scoring.
The second half didn’t start differently from the first, as Sporting were already attacking and trying to find spaces. They had a very good chance of increasing their lead, but Sporar’s shot went wide.
After a few minutes, however, Tondela woke up and threw themselves onto the hosts, trying to at least get one goal. Even with the few chances they got, things didn’t change and Sporting left the pitch with the three points.
After the 2-0 victory, Sporting FC took the third place from Braga, being now with 49 points. Meanwhile, Tondela stopped at 29 points, in 14th place.
