Playing at home, the Spanish national team hosted Malta this Friday on the penultimate Matchday in the EURO 2020 Qualifiers. The Spaniards played way better and build in a 7-0 win over the Malta National Team to secure the top spot in Group F. Alvaro Morata, Santi Cazorla, Pau Torres, Pablo Sarabia, Dani Olmo, Gerard Moreno, and Jesus Navas scored the goals of the seven-goal Spaniard triumph.
Spain had already secured their spot in next year’s EURO last month unconvincingly, drawing 1-1 with both Norway and Sweden.
This Friday was different. Unlikely from the last two games, the Spaniards put in an impressive offensive football and thrashed Malta. Alvaro Morata put the team on the path to victory in the first half, scoring for the seventh consecutive game for both club and the national team.
Santi Cazorla doubled the lead just before the break with his first goal for the national team in more than four years, a special moment for the 34-year-old, who had a remarkable recovery from a foot injury that threatened his career.
Robert Moreno’s team changed the style in the second half, with defender Pau Torres scoring in his debut on 62 minutes and Pablo Sarabia augmenting 60 seconds later.
Dinamo Zagreb striker Dani Olmo left the bench to make his debut in Spain and moments later scored the team’s fifth goal, while Gerard Moreno then shook the net, also scoring his first goal for Spain.
Jesus Navas closed the scoring with the most impressive goal of the night, in a powerful shot from distance straight into the top corner.
Following the 7-0 triumph over Malta, Spain tops the standings in Group F on 23 points from nine games, five more than second-placed Sweden.
