Leicester welcomed Manchester United this Sunday for the last day of the Premier League. At the King Power Stadium, the Red Devils left with the three points after a 2-0 victory, guaranteed their place on next season’s Champions League. Bruno Fernandes and, believe it or not, Jesse Lingard scored the goals of the match.

The first half started with both teams not willing to take risks, as for both the positive result was really important. After a few minutes, United started arriving in the attacking field, already having their first chance with Mason Greenwood’s header, which looped onto the roof of the goal. Then, it was time for the Foxes to scare, when Wilfred Ndidi’s shot passed really close from the crossbar.

The Red Devils almost broke the deadlock, when Paul Pogba sent a wicked delivery to Bruno Fernandes, but the goal was ruled out due to an offside position from the Portuguese. Before the end of the first half, they still obligated goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to make a good save to make both teams go to the locker room with a goalless draw.

Finding that odd? 45 mins on and no penalty awarded to Man Utd? Wait up, it’s coming…

The second half didn’t star differently from the first, with both teams studying the best way to play. The first good chance was from the hosts when Jamie Vardy clipped the post after Youri Tielemans’ center. However, 10 minutes later, the visitors had the perfect chance to open the scoring when Anthony Martial was brought down inside the box and the referee awarded them a penalty. He obviously did. Bruno Fernandes was the taker and converted the spot-kick.

As the match headed to its end, it seemed that the scoring wouldn’t change, but something incredible happened. Lingard, who didn’t score the whole season, appeared at 90+8 to put the ball into the back of the net and complete the scoresheet.

The 2-0 victory guaranteed Manchester United on next season’s Champions League, as they finish the term with 66 points, in third place. On the other hand, Leicester, who were fighting for the 2nd place during part of the season, ended in 5th place, with 62 points. The Foxes got a place in next season’s Europa League.
