Some might say that Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t performed like he used to do back on his old days at Real Madrid as a Juventus player. However, the Portuguese star has been building a really solid career at the Portuguese National Team. Ronaldo simply destroyed Lithuania in the Euro 2020 Qualifiers away game. The number seven scored four goals in the 5-1 victory over the Lithuanians. William Carvalho scored the 5th, as Vytautas Andriuskevicius scored the consolation for Lithuania.
With the result, the Portuguese team reached eight points and their second consecutive victory. Fernando Santos’ side is in the second place in Group B, only behind the leaders Ukraine, who have 13 points, but a game in hand. The Lithuanian team currently bottom the Group, with only one point.
Playing at a modest stadium in Vilnius city, Cristiano Ronaldo and company had no major problem finishing the fragile rival. Carried by Ronaldo, the Portuguese national team opened the scoring on six minutes, from the penalty spot. The Juventus player stepped up and put the visitors ahead. 0-1.
In the only moment that they could show some kind of danger to the Portuguese defense, Lithuania got the equalizer at 27. After a corner in the area, Vytautas Andriuskevicius headed into the net.
In the second half, the Portuguese were dominant. At the 61st minute, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a beautiful goal from outside the box in a low finish into the corner. Just three minutes later, Bernardo Silva assisted the same Ronaldo who appeared in between the defenders in the six-yard area and easily found the back of the nets. 1-3 Portugal.
Ronaldo grabbed his fourth on 75 minutes, in a classy finish down the left. When everyone thought that it would end up like that, William Carvalho showed up on 90 minutes to capitalize from a rebounded ball and make it five to Portugal. 1-5.
What a performance from Ronaldo. The Portuguese National team is good for itself, with some class names. But what brings them to another level is undoubtedly the 34-years-old Ronaldo.
