In the city that will host this 2019/20 UEFA Champions League Final, Istanbul, Galatasaray hosted Real Madrid in the UCL Matchday 3 of the Group Stages. After two frustrating games in the European competition, Zinedine Zidane’s side finally got back to the winning route as they beat the Turks 1-0 thanks to a Toni Kroos goal into the first half.

With the triumph, their first in this season in the Champions, Los Blancos are in 2nd place in Group A, with 4 points, as PSG top the Group with 9. Club Brugge is the 3rd, with 2, and Galatasaray is the rock bottoms, with only a point conquered.

Apart from the important victory, Brazilian Rodrygo also made his debut in the Champions League with Real Madrid. He seems to be getting Zidane’s trust day by day.

There are few places in the world where you go to play a football match, and you can be intimidated by the atmosphere. It was the case of Real Madrid going to Istanbul. An absolute hostile and deafening atmosphere was set up by Galatasaray fans to try to make things easier for their team on the pitch.

And honestly… We’ve been criticizing Thibaut Courtois, but this time, he was kinda hero. Galatasaray went on at the early stages of the game, and created some very good chances, mainly through Andone. However, the Belgian keeper saved them.

After that, on 17 minutes, Eden Hazard capitalized on a poor ball, combined for a give-and-go with Karim Benzema, as he set up Kroos, who opened the scoring in Turkey. 0-1 Real Madrid.

Being 1-0 up, Real controlled the game by betting on Hazard and Rodrygo to work on the counterattack. Courtois had yet to work once more before Belhanda’s dangerous finishes, but it stayed like this by the end of the first half.

At the beginning of the second half, it looked like Real would be constantly under pressure and at some time, would concede the equalizer and would end up losing the match. However, as time went on, the visitors showed a good football, and almost augmented their advantage, as both Rodrygo and Benzema had good opportunities. Also, Hazard struck Muslera’s post after dribbling past the Uruguayan keeper, but the scoring remained just like that. 0-1 Real Madrid.
