With Neymar returning from injury, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Lille 2-0 on Friday at the opening of the 14th Matchday of the French League 1.
The Brazilian did not swing the net at Parc des Princes but initiated the second goal, which ensured the victory and increased the advantage of the Parisian team at the top of the table.
Paris Saint-German has reached 33 points, with a large advantage over second-placed Olympique Marseille, who will face Toulouse on Sunday away from home. Following the defeat to the leaders, Lille is 7th in the table, with 19 points.
As said before, this Friday’s match marked the return of Neymar to the pitch. The Brazilian star was away from the pitch since October 14, when he got injured while was defending the Brazilian National Team in a friendly against Nigeria.
Thomas Tuchel opted for starting the Brazilian striker, while Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani started on the bench and only got to the pitch in the second half.
PSG looked pretty good in the first half, and opened the scoring on 17, through Mauro Icardi. The Argentine striker was well-positioned inside the box and connected with Idrissa Gueye’s cross from the right to score for the Parisians. 1-0 PSG.
The hosts kept going and doubled the lead on 31 mins. Julian Draxler triggered Angel Di Maria, who got inside the box and slotted past the goalkeeper. 2-0 PSG.
In the second half, with the win nearly assured, PSG just managed the advantage. On the other hand, Lille had a lot of chances, mainly through Remy, who missed a clear face to face opportunity from the penalty spot. However, the Parisians managed to grab another win in the League.
After the good 2-0 win at home, PSG will return to the field on Tuesday to face Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Matchday 5 in the Group Stages. The game will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in the Spanish capital.
