Following six intense years at Anfield, Croatian defender Dejan Lovren’s Liverpool career is expected to have an end by the end of the season. Russian side Zenit St. Peterburg is set to close a 12 million euro deal to bring the Croatia international to Russia.

The 31-year-old defender played a major role throughout his Liverpool career so far and managed to reach runners-up to one Carabao Cup, one UEFA Europa League, a UEFA Champions League, a Premier League, and also won a UCL, a PL, a UEFA Super Cup, and a FIFA Club World Cup for the Reds.

At the same time, playing for the Croatian national team, Lovren helped Croatia out on making it to the FIFA Russia 2018 World Cup Final against France, as Croatia ended up losing against a French national team carried by an inspired Kylian Mbappe.

When Jurgen Klopp first arrived at the Reds, back in 2015, the German gaffer used to line up Lovren alongside Frenchman Mamadou Sakho on the back. However, due to some inconsistent performances, and key-errors leading to goals against Liverpool, the German manager lost his faith in Lovren, as the Croatian was reduced to a substitute status.

However, at the same time, Lovren was always ready when he was needed. The Croatia international paired with Virgil van Dijk during the 2017/18 UCL campaign, which ended with the Reds losing to Real Madrid 3-1 in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv.

Despite Lovren’s teammate Loris Karius’ shambolic performance on that final, the Croatian defender played a great defending game, as he was appointed by many as responsible for stopping Cristiano Ronaldo that game.

Lovren recorded 185 games wearing the Reds jersey and scored eight goals. Of course, the most important one was during the UEL campaign, back in 2016/17, as he scored Liverpool’s 93rd-minute winner against Borussia Dortmund in a 4-3 quarter-final game thriller at Anfield.

It’s been quite a journey for Dejan at the Reds, and maybe the time has come to end a cycle. The Croatia international will surely have more game time playing the Russian Premier League and will get to the St. Peterburg side with top-player status.
