For Matchday 28 of the Bundesliga, Hertha Berlin were able to draw away from home by 2-2 with RB Leipzig, not allowing the opponent to reach the second place in the championship. Despite starting behind, the hosts got a comeback and saw the three points escaping during the last minutes. Lukas Klostermann and Patrik Schick scored for Leipzig, while Marko Grujic and Krzysztof Piatek made the goals for Hertha.
The first half started with the home side looking for the opening goal. Their first good chance was at the 6th minute when Laimer’s shot stopped on the good defense of goalkeeper Jarstein.
However, the visitors just needed one chance to break the deadlock. At the 9th minute, after a corner kick, Grujic hit a first-time effort with the outside part of the feet into the corner, giving no chances for goalkeeper Gulacsi.
The early goal conceded made Leipzig put more pressure for the equalizer, and they were able to get it at the 24th minute. After a corner, Klostermann got ahead of the markers and headed into the far corner.
In the second half, the match was much more intense and both sides continued looking for an advantage on the scoring.
Things got a little more difficult for the hosts when Hastenberg saw a second yellow card and made them stay with only 10 players. However, 5 minutes after that, they got their comeback.
At the 68th minute, the striker Schick tried from outside the box and, thanks to the terrible howler from Jarstein, saw the ball die into the back of the net.
The last minutes of the game were pretty exciting. Hertha Berlin put a lot of pressure, searching for at least one more goal and taking advantage of having one more player. And then, at the 82nd minute, they got the perfect chance. Lookman brought Matheus Cunha down inside the box and, after the VAR check, the referee awarded the visitors a penalty. Piatek stepped forward and converted from the spot.
With the result, Leipzig gets to the 55 points but didn’t pass Dortmund on the table, continuing on the 3rd place. Hertha, on the other side, has now 35 points, occupying the 10th position.
