Inter Milan welcomed Sampdoria for matchday 25 of the Serie A TIM. At San Siro, the hosts were able to get the three points with a 2-1 victory. Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez scored for the home side, while Morten Thorsby scored for the visitors.
Playing at home, Inter started the first half putting pressure on their opponents. With that, they didn’t take much time to open the scoring. Already at the 10th minute, after a beautiful play that started in the defensive system, Christian Eriksen assisted Lukaku inside the box and the Belgian put the ball under goalkeeper Emil Audero and into the back of the net.
The hosts doubled their lead still in the first half. At the 33rd minute, Antonio Candreva found Lautaro alone in the middle of the box and the Argentine obviously didn’t miss the chance, putting the ball into the back of the net.
Winning by two goals, Inter came back to the second half a little relaxed, which gave a chance to Sampdoria to start creating more chances. So it was no surprise when, at the 52nd minute, they scored their goal. After a corner kick, defender Omar Colley jumped alone in the box and headed, the ball hit the post and went back into Thorsby’s feet, who shot to the goal. Goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was able to touch the ball with his feet, but couldn’t avoid the goal.
The visitors even tried to get the equalizer, creating a few opportunities more, but they just could not do it. Inter, who honestly didn’t create in the second half, got away with the three points.
With the victory, Inter Milan continued in 3rd place, now with 57 points, 5 points behind Lazio. Meanwhile, Sampdoria stopped at 26 points, in 16th place, still fighting against relegation.
