This week, in an interview with Catalan radio “RAC1”, the current La Liga president Javier Tebas gave controversial statements about former Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo. According to the Spanish League chairman, the Portuguese star departure did not have any impact on the League. In addition, he praised Lionel Messi and delivery his personal message to the Argentina international, telling him to retire in Spain.
Real Madrid fans don’t agree with you, Mr. President. It’s impossible for any League not to miss a legendary player like Ronaldo. It’s a controversial statement from Mr. Tebas, but it’s understandable, given the fact he was speaking to a Catalan radio, and Ronaldo doesn’t play in Spain anymore.
Ronaldo played for nine years at Real Madrid. in that period he won four UEFA Champions League and two La Liga trophies, in addition to four FIFA Club World Cup and also Two King’s Cups.
The Portugal international left Real Madrid for Juventus back in 2018 in a 100-million-euro transfer. It was surely an impact, as the Spanish “El Clasico” isn’t the same without Ronaldo vs Messi.
Some even claim that both La Liga and Barcelona are done once Lionel Messi leaves Barcelona, or retire from Football.
It’s indeed very hard to compete against the Premier League, for example. Everyone was expecting for the Premier League to be back, even knowing that Liverpool will win it. The Premier League atmosphere is something else, even though there’s no atmosphere at all coming from the stands, as all games are behind closed doors.
Check out La Liga President’s statement down below:
”Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, even if people are uncomfortable in Madrid, had almost no impact. Because in La Liga we have been preparing for years for the brand to transcend players. But his case is different. Messi is the best player in the history of football. We were lucky to always have him here. I think his departure would be noticeable”.
“He is an icon of Spanish football, La Liga and I would ask him to end his career in our competition. How much love we have given. Nor would it be a catastrophe because we signed television contracts with or without Messi. But the important thing is the value it gives you. Messi always delights us”.
He obviously mentioned TV contracts and everything. Apparently, Messi doesn’t only rules Barcelona, but also the whole League.
