On Monday, Juventus fans got another reason to smile. Despite signing Brazilian Arthur from Barcelona, the Old Lady also reached an agreement with both Gianluigi Buffon and Georgio Chiellini for a new Juventus contract.
Both players represent the Juventus’ gold generation, which has dominated Italy for the past decade and they can maybe be considered as Juventus legends. They just need to help the Italian club out with a UEFA Champions League.
A curious fact is that the announcement surprised some of the football news sources, mainly because Buffon, who’s been goalkeeping for Juventus for more than 17 seasons, and is already 42 years old and betting books were spending a ton of money betting on his retirement as early as the end of this season, which won’t happen.
Honestly, that keeper needs at least a UEFA Champions League trophy. Meanwhile, Chiellini is 35 years old, but his excellent physical condition can earn him a few more years at a high level.
Gianluigi Buffon has been playing at Juventus between 2001 and 2018. And after a lackluster stint at Paris Saint-Germain, for just one season, he returned to the Old Lady in the second half of 2019. The goalkeeper legend won the Italian Serie A on nine occasions, in addition to having won the Italian Cup on four occasions. However, he was defeated in three UEFA Champions League finals.
In addition to it, Giorgio Chiellini has been wearing the Juventus kit since 2005, and has won most of his titles playing alongside the goalkeeper.
Both of them signed new contracts for Juventus until the end of the 2020/21 season.
Perhaps, they should stop focusing on the Italian Serie A, and other domestic cups, they should have a focus on the European competitions.
