From the hands of Liverpool’s rivals Manchester United’s legend Sir Alex Ferguson, Jurgen Klopp received the League Managers Association award. Due to his 2019/20 nearly perfect season ahead of Premier League champions Liverpool, it was already expected that the German boss would get his thoroughly deserved manager of the year trophy.
And who better to handle the trophy to Klopp than former Man United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson? The legendary Red Devils manager, who pushed for a true revolution at the Manchester team.
Of course that the term “to handle” is not 100% true, as Sir Alex Ferguson only recorded a video with the trophy announcing that Klopp was the winner of the LMA award, due to obvious reasons.
In the video, Ferguson even joked about a curious fact that happened whilst Klopp lifted the Premier League trophy, a couple of days ago, as the German coach had apparently called Sir Alex Ferguson at three in the morning just to have some banter with the former Man United legendary manager.
Check out what Sir Alex had to say on his video awarding Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp:
“Fantastic, Jurgen! I’ve been talking a lot about Leeds United’s return to the Premier League 16 years later and also Liverpool’s title after 30 years. Amazing! You deserved it all. The level of your team was fabulous, and your personality took root throughout the club! It was a wonderful performance, and I forgive you for waking up at 3:30 am to tell you that you’d won the league. Thanks for everything and congratulations!”.
Subsequently, Jürgen Klopp also recorded a video thanking Ferguson for the message and to celebrate the award.
“I am extremely proud to receive this trophy. There are many Liverpool coaches who have beaten him, but the main name to receive this honor is Sir Alex. I know it’s not entirely appropriate to say that, since I’m a Liverpool coach, but I admire him a lot. He was the 1st British coach I met when I arrived in England. We had breakfast together. I don’t know if he will remember that day. But for me, it was like meeting the Pope! ”, Declared Klopp.
If Jurgen keeps on winning everything, just like the old Scot manager did for the Red Devils, I’m pretty sure that the reciprocal will be true from Sir Alex’s part as well.
