Among the major national leagues in Europe, only two teams have achieved 100% success so far this season. One of them is Liverpool in England. The other team with a perfect start is Internazionale who, on Saturday, surpassed their first big test in the Italian Serie A: they defeated their deadliest rivals, AC Milan in the Milan derby at the San Siro Stadium by 2-0 on Matchday 4.
Following the good win over AC Milan, “unbeatable” Internazionale top Serie A with 12 points, two ahead of Juventus, who earlier defeated Hellas Verona 2-1 in Turin. AC Milan, in yet another oscillating season, counts on six points.
The derby also stood out for what happened off the pitch. San Siro counted on illustrious presences of former strikers Ronaldo and Stoichkov, coach Fabio Capello and FIFA president Gianni Infantino. They all were praised by both Milan teams fans, with banners created in their honor.
On the pitch, Internazionale dominated all the first half and was unlucky not go into the break ahead of the scoring. They even scored, but the VAR ruled out a goal from D’Ambrosio after 35 minutes.
However, after the break, it took Internazionale only two minutes to open the scoring. Brozovic got the ball by the edge of the area and fired. The ball deflected off defender Rafael Leao and tricked Donnarumma, as the ball ended up in the back of the net. 1-0 Internazionale. Once again, the referee checked out the goal in the VAR, as there were doubts on Lautaro Martinez’s position before the shot. However, the Argentine striker did not have any participation whatsoever into the play, as the goal remained.
Displaying of a much better football than AC Milan, Internazionale kept on attacking and was awarded another goal. On 77 minutes, Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku received Barella’s perfect cross and headed home. 2-0 Inter.
The Rossoneri team tried to react but did little to threaten Handanovic’s goal, as the win remained with the, so far, stronger team from Milan.
