After losing their unbeaten record at home against Juventus in the previous Matchday in the Italian Serie A, Internazionale got back to the winning track on Sunday by beating Sassuolo in an electric 4-3 that kept the team chasing the Serie A leaders, Juventus.
This weekend’s duel at the Citta del Tricolore stadium, was an overrun for the Milan club against an often difficult opponent, having won four of their last five matches between the two teams in the competition.
It was the seventh win in eight matches from Antonio Conte’s side, who only lost points to the eight-time champions in a row Juventus in the 2-1 defeat of the previous Matchday at Giuseppe Meazza.
Without Stefano Sensi or injured Alexis Sanchez, Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku were largely responsible for the Milan team’s victory, which looked set until the 74th minute as they almost suffered a turnaround.
The Argentinian opened the scoring early in the second minute. But at 16, Berardi left everything the same for the hosts. After that, Lukaku stepped up and scored twice more by the end of the first half. The first one, Inter’s second, was on 38 mins, and he made it 3-1 on 45 mins from the Penalty spot.
After the break, Internazionale kept attacking, and got to the 4th goal through Martinez once again, on 71 minutes. However, the scenario radically changed when Djuricic, at 74, and Boga, at 82, scored for Sassuolo, who went for the all-or-nothing late in the game. Luckily for Internazionale, they could hold the hosts and guarantee the three points.
After the dramatic 4-3 away win, Internazionale will be back on the pitch midweek against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League. After that, they will host Parma on next Saturday. A day earlier, Sassuolo will visit Verona in the Italian Serie A.
