This Tuesday at the San Paolo Stadium, Napoli hosted RB Salzburg in the UEFA Champions League Matchday 4. The Italian side had the chance of booking their place into the Round of 16 in case of a win, but RB Salzburg gave them a hard time and postponed Carlo Ancelotti’s side plans. With a goal from the young sensation, Erling Haaland, RB Salzburg opened the scoring early in the first half, as Napoli was forced to get the equalizer. It happened through Hirving Lozano, but not enough to avoid the 1-1 draw.
With the draw, the Neapolitans were dropped out of the lead to 2nd place in Group E, as Liverpool won their match against rock bottoms Genk. Napoli counts with 8 points, as the Reds have 9. RB Salzburg has 4 and must win their two next matches and pray that Liverpool or Napoli drop points in their remaining matches. Salzburg will host Genk onto the next Matchday, as Napoli will visit Liverpool at Anfield, on November 27.
In Naples, the meteor of the season in the European Cup rocketed once again. On 11 minutes, following Kalidou Koulibaly’s penalty at Hwang, the 19-year-old Danish striker stepped up and converted the penalty home. 0-1 RB Salzburg.
It was his 7th goal in the competition. He counts on 7 goals in 4 matches and reached superior numbers than even legendary Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Dane, who already held a player’s record of goals in his first three Champions League games, extended the mark for another match. In addition, Haaland is just the fourth athlete in history to score in his first four games in the UEFA Champions League. Only Ze Carlos (FC Porto, 1992/93), Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus, 1995) and Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid, 2013/14) did the same.
Being 1-0 down at home, Napoli kept attacking looking for that equalizer. It came in a little before half-time, as on 43 mins, Lorenzo Insigne picked up a loose ball down the middle, powered home, and laid it out to Lozano, who managed to stay onside and fired into the corner from the penalty spot. 1-1.
After the break, Napoli dominated the second half, and a win seemed to be on the way. However, Lozano and Llorente missed good chances, as the game ended up with both sides sharing the points at the San Paolo Stadium.
