In one of the big UEFA Champions League games so far, Borussia Dortmund suffered a lot and had to reinvent themselves ahead of Internazionale at the Signal Iduna Park. Antonio Conte’s Inter went on to open a 2-0 lead in the first half through Lautaro Martinez and Vecino. In the second half, Achraf Hakimi led the hosts in front of the Yellow Wall on to an unlikely comeback, as he scored twice and closed the deal for Lucien Favre’s side. Julian Brandt also scored.
With the 3-2 tough win, Dortmund surpassed Internazionale on the table and moved up to 2nd, with 7 points. Leaders Barcelona counts on 8, as Inter has 4.
In the first half, not even the Yellow Wall was able to intimidate Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine striker, who is in a big moment with the Internazionale jersey, was Internazionale’s main man once again. On five minutes into the match, he pulled off a beautiful individual play down the right flank, got into the area and scored past an onrushing Roman Burki. 0-1 Inter.
If the Italian’s first goal was beautiful, the second one was a true masterpiece. 40 minutes into the game, the play began with the defenders, who picked Martinez out. The Argentine fed Candreva, who assisted Vecino, who showed great skills to struck home a first-time effort into the corner. What a goal. 0-2 Inter.
After half-time, Dortmund came back way differently and went on to make history. On 51 minutes, Mario Gotze received the pass down the left and found Hakimi, who scored from close-range to pull a goal back to Dortmund. 1-2.
The Internazionale didn’t even have time to digest Hakimi’s goal and saw Borussia Dortmund leave everything the same. After 64 minutes, substitute Paco Alcacer found Brandt, who burst into the box and smartly slotted into Handanovic’s corner. 2-2.
Brandt left everything the same, as the Yellow Wall erupted. It was very hard to hold the hosts, as an apparent easy match turned into an impossible mission for the Italians. In the 77th minute, Hakimi turned everything around for the hosts. The Moroccan combined for a give-and-go with Jadon Sancho, as he got inside the area and slotted past Handanovic. 3-2 Borussia Dortmund.
What a braveness this Borussia Dortmund side showed to all of us. What looked like a certain defeat at half-time turned into a beautiful win.
