This Wednesday, Newcastle welcomed Tottenham for matchday 36 of the Premier League. At the St James Park, Jose Mourinho’s team managed to leave with the three points after a good 3-1 win over their opponents. One goal of Heung-Min Son and two of Harry Kane guaranteed the victory. Matt Ritchie diminished for the hosts.
As they were playing at home, the Magpies started the first half attacking and creating good opportunities but failing to actually score. And despite suffering a lot of pressure, the Spurs, who had barely brought danger to the hosts, were the one able to break the deadlock at the 27th minute. Son received already inside the box and hit the back of the net to open the scoring.
Newcastle didn’t change their way of playing after suffering the goal and almost found an equalizer still in the first half, hitting the post. Therefore, they went to the locker room with a small disadvantage.
As the second half started, both teams didn’t seem as intense as during the first. But, after a sub, the hosts started to improve once again and scored their goal. At the 56th minute, DeAndre Yedlin, who had just entered, assisted Richie, who hit the ball into the back of the net to equalize the scoring.
However, it didn’t take long until the visitors got ahead once again. 4 minutes later Steven Bergwijn crossed for Kane, who sent the ball past goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and into the back of the net.
Before the end of the match, Kane still found the back of the net one more time. At the 90th minute, the number 9 used his head to score the third goal of the Spurs and guarantee the three points.
After the 3-1 victory, Tottenham reached 55 points and are in 7th place. Meanwhile, Newcastle stopped at 43 points, in 13th place.
